Spiritual Care Services

The CHUS believes in the importance of spiritual health and maintains its commitment to offering ongoing spiritual care based on available human, material and financial resources.

Spiritual care providers offer spiritual care based on an interdisciplinary approach with other professionals who provide users with biological, psychological and social care.

  • Occasional spiritual care
  • Supportive spiritual care
  • Therapeutic spiritual care
  • Religious spiritual care
  • Daily services for users
  • Client-program services

Spiritual care services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, care is primarily provided during the day shift, seven days a week.

On call and call-back

The on call and call-back system seeks to meet user needs outside regular service hours. However, these calls are limited to emergencies, such as an end of life situation, termination of treatment, organ donation, major surgery, etc. Taking into consideration the current client profile, on calls, call-backs and weekends are currently covered by a Roman Catholic priest.

An interpreter is called upon to interpret language and culture. His/her role is to facilitate communication between a health care provider and a patient that does not speak French, and to act as a liaison between these two people to foster communication.

Steps to follow

  • A member of the CHUS staff must authorize all requests.
  • An interpreter request form will then be filled out by the CHUS and sent to the Service d’aide aux Néo-Canadiens (SANC).

Please note that if the request is not authorized in advance by the CHUS, the patient will be required to assume the costs of the interpreter.

Service d'aide aux Néo-Canadiens (SANC)
The Service d'aide aux Néo-Canadiens receives requests for interpreters Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
